The film is set in the 1990s and follows the secret same-sex relationship between Cameron Post-Chloë Grace Moretz and her best friend Curley Taylor. Cameron’s identity is exposed when her bearded boyfriend catches her hooking up with Curley at the homecoming dance. “Cheryl Dunye’s first novel was very
important to me,” Drew Gregory wrote in the previous article. “When Denye didn’t see her story she made up her own. But Watermelon Woman is more than just her story on screen but an exploration of the necessity of that story.” Portrait of a Lady on Fire tells the story of Portrait of a Lady on Fire Marianne’s story follows a young woman, Noémie Merante, who is commissioned to paint a wedding portrait of her reluctant bride-to-be, Héloïse Adele Haeneléïè.
